The most important thing focused on Feng shui principles so long as bedroom decoration is concerned, is enhancing the romance and love between the couple and helping the singles to find a perfect pair. Feng shui tips, firstly suggest having an objective view in the bedroom, in order to ensure that every item is present in pairs. These tips state that all the accessories including the statuaries, end tables, candles, etc.If you have any form of artwork in the room, it should have sculptured in it. See to it that you try to avoid lonely figures. The bed sheet should be clean enough and selected as the taste of your partner and yourself. It is recommended that you get rid of all the stuff under the bed to ensure a free flow of energy in the room, according to Feng shui tips. Exercise equipments and work related materials should not be present in the room. The reason behind this fact is that work needs to be performed at the work place only and not at the rest place, i.e. the bedroom.Bedroom is considered as the most important part of your house because this is the place where you have a calm and sweet good night's sleep. Feng shui tips can make your night's sleep better than before. The color used in bedroom decoration has a vital role to play, according to the Feng shui principles. The most preferable and acceptable color codes for the bedroom, as defined by Feng shui include pink, red, and shades of pink, because these colors seem to be related to the bonding of relationship. Light colors may not suit the guys; in this case, you can go for mauves or dark maroon in the bedroom. Shapes like oval and round should be deliberately used. However you should avoid using sharp angles because they do not promote harmony. In order to get a sound sleep at night, you need to be careful regarding what is being found at the bed head. Bookshelf is not preferred at the side of the bed head. It leads to confusion and clutters throughout the night. If you a TV set, then cover it before you go to sleep; or else it would be eye staring towards you, thus not giving you a sound night sleep. Wooden beds are preferred over the electric conducting metal beds.Based on the Feng shui tips, it is preferable to use lighting in the bedroom that is not very bright and not very dim. Avoid very large or big mirrors as they may frighten or astonish you at midnight. The headboard of the bed should be supported against a strong, solid wall instead of windows.

Reading the above title, you are probably already groaning. But take heart, this is not about packing a bunch of bamboo, samurais and gongs into your home, promise. Instead it is about creating an environment that is clean, filled with color, and has an instinctive flow to it.Anyone that likes to decorate knows that if you put too much into a room, it can begin to feel uncomfortable to be in. The key to decorating with the principles of feng shui is less is more. It is just that simple. The true power behind feng shui is not in the objects you put in a room, but rather the colors you bring to it. Based on ancient principles that invite positive energy into a dwelling, keeping negative energy at bay, and inciting feelings with color, feng shui can be a fun and empowering way to decorate.Colors form the foundation of feng shui, and colors should form the positive environment within your home. The first step of starting this method of decorating is also simple: get rid of the clutter. According to feng shui, clutter brings about stasis, any energy that would have been moving freely through a home gets caught up in the clutter and dies. Keeping rooms clutter-free also makes them seem lighter and more inviting. Now, onto colors. In China, the colors red, yellow and purple bring good luck. These should be used in the first room that visitors would enter through, to draw positive energy into your home. Keep in mind that you don't have to drown a room in a particular color, nor do you have to repaint or other major changes to accomplish this. The easiest way is to choose one prominent item in a room to use as a focal point for the color. In the first room, if you have a wall facing the front door, place a larger piece of artwork with one of the three colors dominant within it. Simple as that.In other rooms, decide what feeling you want to inspire. Green is the color of freshness, peace and growth. Try a green throw for a piece of furniture, or decorate the room with plants. Just remember, less is more, and keep the clutter to a minimum. A great way to tie energies to a room is with contemporary area rugs. Think about that as you walk from room to room whether the change you want to make is just the rug.Family areas should combine wood and water, or browns and blues. Bedrooms should have the colors of nature within them for peaceful rest and health. This is where you might want to use inexpensive oriental rugs and geometric rugs to anchor and tie the other rooms together into a single, vibrant flow. Decorating with feng shui is easy to do if you know what a color means, and how it can be represented. Use objects to represent colors, like plants, the veneer on furniture and artwork.

One of the most important rooms in the home, from a Feng Shui perspective, is the kitchen. The kitchen is where food is prepared providing the occupants of the home with the essential nourishment they need to live a healthy and balanced life. In this article I cover some general tips, what I call my ten kitchen commandments, to ensure the energy in your kitchen flows in a harmonious and positive way.Commandment 1Your Kitchen should be filled with light A light and airy kitchen fills the occupants of the home with joy, ensuring that the kitchen is a place in which people want to linger. The longer we spend in the kitchen the more likely we are to take care and attention over the meals that we prepare and cook. If your kitchen is in a small room or is narrow and dark you can easily lighten the space by adding lights, mirrors or by painting the walls or cupboards in a light colour. Excellent colours for the walls in a kitchen are white, cream or pale green, the white and cream will automatically lighten the space whilst green brings in the wood element, an important element that helps bring balance to the kitchen.Commandment 2 Your Kitchen should not be an obstacle course For energy to flow in harmony around your kitchen it should not encounter obstacles. The square design of kitchen furniture and appliances often make the kitchen a sharp room filled with angles that may not necessarily promote positive chi. We should therefore not create more problems by placing tables, island units and butchers blocks slap bang in the middle of the kitchen floor. If we do have items blocking the centre of the kitchen we may find that positive energy is blocked from flowing around the kitchen and we may find that we ourselves have difficulty in digesting our food.Commandment 3 Your Kitchen should not be filled with poison arrows In tandem with the point above, the nature of much kitchen furniture means that we may find one or two poison arrows in place in the kitchen. Poison arrows are angles that point outwards at 90 degrees and can cause the energy to be disruptive in the area in which it is pointing. The best cure for a poison arrow is to disguise or hide it. Plants, tubs filled with herbs or baskets filled with fruit and vegetables are all excellent ways in which a poison arrow can be disguised.Commandment 4 Your Kitchen should not be seen from the front door If your kitchen can be seen from the front door you are more likely to walk in to the kitchen when you enter your home and, if you are like me, head straight for the fridge. Ideally your kitchen should be well away from your front door. This however is easier said, or in this case written, than done. Assuming your kitchen can be seen from your front door and you do not want to completely remodel your home there is a very simple cure which is to keep the kitchen door shut. Proving my point that Feng Shui really doesn't have to be complicated.Commandment 5 Your Kitchen should be free of clutter If truth be told, your whole house should be free of clutter. It is worth mentioning specifically with the kitchen in mind however as the kitchen, more than many other rooms, has a tendency to accumulate clutter. Many people make the mistake of thinking that clutter is rubbish, or stuff that you don't need, but it isn't. Clutter is anything that you don't need right now. In the kitchen that includes weighing scales, the toaster, the empty fruit bowl, the pots draining by the sink and old bills and bank statements that haven't been filed away. If you don't need it right now then put it away until you do need it. Who wants to work in a kitchen where you are continually having to fight for workspace with an assortment of unused kitchen utensils?Commandment 6 Your Kitchen should not create a surprise for the cook Not even a pleasant one! When the cook is spending time preparing a meal they do not want to feel insecure, or not know what is going on behind their back. Ideally then when the cook is at the hob they should have an uninterrupted view of the door in to the kitchen. If the placement of your hob means that the cook has their back to the door you will need to place a mirror, or reflective screen on the wall at the back of the hob so that the cook can see behind them at all times when they are cooking.Commandment 7 Your Kitchen should promote positive energy A great way of balancing the energy and promoting positive chi is to add the wood element in to your kitchen. Adding wood creates a positive and harmonious link between the destructive elements of water and fire which are heavily represented in your kitchen. You can easily achieve this balance and harmony by such simple actions as adding wood units, painting your kitchen walls green, adding green crockery or introducing broad leaved plants in to the kitchen.Commandment 8 Your Kitchen's main purpose should be the preparing and cooking of food In our modern day homes quite often rooms are used for a number of different purposes. In the UK and France it is very common for homes to have large kitchen cum dining areas. If this is the case in your home it is important that you create two very distinct areas. If you do not clearly define your kitchen space, which is after all one of the most important areas of your home, you are at risk of losing or diluting some of the benefits that this area brings. Meal preparation may end up being rushed or not taken care of, work surfaces may end up being used as storage areas and the cook's attention may not be focused solely on cooking. A barrier with plants or a decorative screen can work well as a room divider, if this is not practical using two different but complimentary colour schemes in the two areas of the room can create the effect of two different areas.Commandment 9 Your Kitchen should ideally have the oven, fridge and sink at the three auspicious pointsIf you think of the points of a triangle, the oven, as the focal point of the kitchen should be at the top with the fridge and the sink at the other two points. This helps to create a harmonious flow of energy around your kitchen and ensures that natural barriers are in place between the fire and main water elements.Commandment 10 Your Kitchen should always be kept clean and fresh For positive energy to thrive it is important that your home is kept clean, fresh, well maintained and in good decorative order. In the kitchen this means that the floors, worktops and appliances should be kept free of crumbs and stains, the hob and appliances should be kept in good working order with any broken items quickly replaced, and old cooking smells should be got rid of as soon as possible. A good and completely natural way of getting rid of smells is to keep herbs and spices around the kitchen as they give out wonderful fresh kitcheny smells.I hope that this article has given you a useful insight in to how you can ensure your kitchen promotes positive energy. Feng Shui decorating has become the latest trend in interior design. While it may be hard to pronounce, reaping the benefits associated with it is as easy as adjusting the position and location of your existing furniture. The following tips are designed to help you get the most out of Feng Shui decorating, by providing a basic introduction and an overview of how it works!Designing with these principles in mind is intended to utilize the energy in and around your home in a positive way that creates a balance of joy and harmony. While its applications in interior decorating are recent here, its first recorded application was around 4000 BC in China. While this may make it seem obsolete, the practices associated with it are still relevant today when used properly. The first key in placing your furniture for the best Feng Shui benefits is to ensure that you are not blocking or distorting the flow of Chi.The best way to do this is to make sure that furniture and accessories are not crammed into spaces, and that all of your items have proper room to breathe. This includes all sides of your furniture, and is why it is important that all chairs, couches and beds have proper flow all the way around them by elevating them. You should also place your furniture so that all of your pieces have a good view of the entry way, and if a direct line of sight isn't possible, try using a mirror so you can manipulate it via reflection. When you are placing pictures in your home, make sure that the frames are not above eye level. Also, make sure that larger pictures are grounded properly by only placing them over larger pieces of furniture. These rules also apply to mirrors and any form of custom or generic artwork. If your pictures are of loved ones, then these should be placed in the furthest right corner from the entry of any room, which is identified as the love sector. Also remember that pictures in the bedroom should only be of the people that sleep in that room. Many people neglect to embrace Feng Shui decorating cures because they mistakenly believe that to enhance your life using these strategies is both complicated and expensive. This is not the case as usually it means tidying and re arranging your existing belongings. While these steps may seem simple, applying them in your home will help bring more health and good fortune to you, your family and all who enter your home!

Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of placement to encourage the flow of "chi" or energy through a person's living or work space. It is used to attract such things as prosperity, love, wealth, good luck, health, a successful career, balance, harmony, contentment, and happy relationships. Wouldn't you like these in your life? Items connected to wood, water, fire, metal, and earth are used for feng shui decorating to attract these benefits to the inhabitant of the space. If budget concerns limit the use of actual objects such as symbols or statues depicting these items, their facsimiles are often used in the form of photographs, posters, sketches, paper sculptures, etc. The lifestyle mainly has to do with the placement of furniture in an arrangement to allow chi to flow through the home or workspace, but decorative items placed in various locations can also be important. When possible, feng shui advocates that the items should be in pairs.According to the ancient Chinese, for example, some Feng Shui symbols are golden pigs (especially in a new home); mandarin ducks (symbols of fidelity); dragons (for protection); bells (placed outside the home); plants (placed indoors for wealth); a metal dish with coins (not to be on display); a dragon and phoenix (side by side for a happy union); three coins tied with red ribbon (for good luck and prosperity); white tigers (because of their rarity); goldfish (a symbol of prosperity); fountains (outside the home to reflect the beauty of nature); turtles (containing the secrets of the universe); fish tanks (people are drawn to them); Fu dogs (for protection); three star gods (for wealth); three-legged toad (a symbol of fortune); two sided cat with a broom ( for abundance and to sweep away problems); indoor water fountain (to attract what you desire); and a crystal lotus for luck.Mirrors are used to attract chi benefits as they can alter the chi flow; bring a sense of rejuvenation; and also bring calm. It is believed however, that placing a mirror across from a bed can bring a third party into the relationship. Also, if you experience pressures at work, bankruptcy, legal or other problems after your fish tank has been in a location for a few months, move it to another spot.Feng Shui decorating is all about being in harmony with nature. According to the Chinese, ying and yang (opposites) are active in our lives every day, and creating a balance between the two is necessary. Decorating can be an important part of this.

If you are interested in increasing your prosperity and financial growth through the art of Feng Shui, then you may already know how to arrange your living and work spaces to help you achieve that goal. But, did you know that adding a money tree, in the proper place, will boost your chances and build your chi that much more? The technical name for the Feng Shui money tree is Pachira. There are many online vendors who sell these trees, assuming you can not find them at your local nursery. If you are worried that you do not really have a green thumb, rest assured that your money tree would not be that difficult to care for. As long as it gets plenty of sunlight, and you remember to water it, your Feng Shui money tree should thrive. Be aware, money trees have been known to grow rather large, some reaching seven feet in height, and over three feet in width. This could be a problem if you have space issues in your home. However, if you do not place your money tree in the proper place in your home, it could actually negatively affect your chi, so you must first do your homework on Feng Shui money tree placement. If you have your own business, you should try to place your Feng Shui money tree nearest to your cash, such as nearby the cash register or even the office safe. To find the best spot for your Feng Shui money tree in your home, you need to consult your Bagua chart. If you do not already have this chart, you can find them for free online.By placing the Bagua map over your room layout map, you will find that the Southeast corner of your home is the best place for your money tree to be placed, if you are seeking financial gain. There are other areas in the home that the money tree could also be placed, using your Bagua map as your guide. Often the Northwest corner of your home is also a good spot, again, depending on your own personal goals. If you have an outdoor garden, or adequate lawn space, Feng Shui money trees can also be placed outside the home, again, after determining the proper placement.Other plants can also be placed inside the home to increase your chi. For years, the Jade plant has been known as a symbol of prosperity in Chinese history, and fruit trees have also been linked to money in the past, so these could be great additions to your Feng Shui home as well, if your ultimate goal is prosperity.

An expert Classical Feng Shui consultant will be able to tell about 75% of what's happening in your life by analyzing your front entrance, bedroom and kitchen. Sounds unbelievable, but it's not. Advanced Classical Feng Shui formulas can forecast the impact these areas will have on occupants of the home. The more people who pass through a doorway, the more active the flow of energy and the more influential the door becomes. While these calculations are tied to the unique energy makeup of you and your home, these general principles can help you ensure that your front door radiates positive energy:1. Your front door creates a first impression for you and others who enter. A home with a welcoming entrance will put visitors at ease and attract good fortune. The path leading to your doorway should be clear and open so that there are no obstacles blocking the flow of energy into your home. Remove old newspapers, garden hoses, bicycles, overgrown or dead plants and trees. Keeping the path open allows good opportunities to flow into your life. Also clean away any cobwebs. Having an attractive doormat, and planting lush flowers and plants along the walkway and near the front entrance encourages good energy to enter your home and makes your home more inviting.2. A front door that opens clockwise into the home channels more energy inside. All doors should open fully and easily. Remove anything placed behind a door that doesn't allow it to open completely. Re-consider any self-closing mechanisms - or anything that lets a door open or close automatically: your door should symbolize that you are in control. Are you feeling beset by one obstacle after another? Get out your oil can and eliminate any squeaks, creaks or locks that are hard to open. Repair and spruce up your front door as soon it shows any of these signs of wear and tear.3. A solid front door is better than a glass door and provides more protection and support. Glass paneling above the door is okay. Your house number or name should be clearly visible. Positioning the individual numbers of your address on an upward slant is auspicious too. The clearer the identification, the better it is for your career, recognition and an active social life.4. Your front door should be proportionate in size to the home. If it is too large, it can cause financial difficulty and opportunities to be lost. If it is too small, it can create discord within the family. Also, if the front door is made up of two panel sections, then they should be equal in size and color.5. Your front door should not face churches, cemeteries or funeral homes. These places illicit a tremendous amount of yin energy and can potentially cause depression, illness, fears and the potential for financial loss. You can plant bushes, small trees or add a retaining wall to obstruct the view from these unfortunate sites. However, do not plant a single tree directly in line with your front door since it will block beneficial energy from entering your home.6. Your front door should not face telephone poles or sharp corners (known as poison arrows) from neighboring rooftops or buildings. The electromagnetic voltage emanating from electrical stations or telephone poles can cause health difficulties. And poison arrows pointing at your front door can cause bad luck, illness amongst children or even problems in career or business. While it is best to avoid such an entrance, you can plant small trees to block the view. A more expensive cure would be to reorient the front door.7. Your front entrance should not face a narrow gap between two buildings. If so, it can potentially cause your savings to be squandered away. In both authentic Feng Shui and Vaastu, what you see is what you get. So, no "gaps" and neither should your front door face a dumpster or garbage heap -- not even one that is far away. (I know this seems like common sense but just recently I saw a few homes facing this.) By hiding the view, you will minimize the negative effects coming from an adverse site. Plant small bushes or add a small retaining wall to cover up any such sight.8. Your front door should preferably open into a large bright foyer or a living room. It should feel warm and welcoming. You should not be greeted by a wall when entering your home. On a subconscious level, it is as if you are daily walking into a wall which is blocking you as you try to move forward in life. Place a picture on this wall that has depth and dimension to it. You could place a mirror on a side wall but do not place a mirror directly in front of the main door.9. In Asian countries, people will take off their shoes just inside the front entrance. Just imagine all the dust, dirt and dead energy our shoes bring into our home. Taking shoes off not only keeps your home purer, it keeps you more grounded to your home's beneficial earth energies. As C. Jung said, "When you walk with naked feet, how can you forget the earth." If you do remove your shoes when entering your home, keep them in a closet rather than blocking the front entrance. Culturally, westerners may not have the same outlook. So it is important then to at least clean and replace your doormat regularly since it also absorbs dirt, dust and stagnant energy.10. If you enter through your garage door or another side entrance, then that door serves as your main entrance. The first place you come into when entering your home influences your state of mind. It is important than that this area also be clean and organized. Place a welcome sign in the garage or greet yourself with an inspirational photo or saying that makes you smile. Paint the room an attractive color and beautify this space just as you would the formal entrance. In essence, the experience of entering your home should be like meeting a best friend -- one who is warm, welcoming and ready to support you and put you at ease. By making the adjustments recommended above, your warm, welcoming entrance will help attract good fortune to your home.(c) 2009 Rupal Mehta Turner

In my many years as a feng shui consultant I'm often asked, "What color should I paint this room?" My response is always the same, "Any colors you like and that make you feel happy and comfortable." The client is often surprised by my answer because many people mistakenly think that if they paint their home some special "feng shui colors" they will make more money, fall in love, or get a better job. Of course this simply isn't true or everyone would be doing it.Painting or decorating your home in specific colors hoping to change your destiny is as silly as it sounds. This is another one of the myths and misunderstandings that is promoted by feng shui practitioners and authors alike. The truth is, while there are colors associated with the elements of feng shui, they were never meant to be the colors in which you needed to decorate your home. The real relationship color has to feng shui is how the colors you use make you feel, and those reactions and feelings to color are as unique as the individual perceiving them.We choose colors based on personal preference, cultural influences, trends, and often, by what looks good on us. Even our childhood experiences with certain colors will have an impact on how we feel when confronted with them. For example, when I was little my mother made me where a LOT of navy blue because she thought it looked good on me. To this day I hate the color navy blue. Even though it is a good color on me, I don't own even one navy blue piece of clothing and you won't find it decorating my home either. I simply don't like it because I was forced to wear so much of it in childhood.Because your color preferences are influenced by many different factors, it makes no sense that certain "feng shui" colors will magically change things around in your life. In fact, if you don't like the colors some book arbitrarily assigned to a certain area of your home, the effect will be more detrimental than helpful, and is actually the opposite of having good feng shui. Good feng shui is about creating a space that is not only beautiful, but makes you feel good too. Decorating a home in unappealing colors is certainly counter productive from a feng shui perspective, and something I advice against. So with all this confusion out of the way, I have provided some helpful guidelines for you to follow when choosing color in your home.1. People are soothed by images of nature and natural colors. Include colors from nature, plants, flowers and natural materials in your color scheme. Scientists have actually done studies on the effect flowers have on human beings and Rutgers University discovered that humans actually produce endorphins (the "feel good" hormones) when they see colorful flowers.2. Frame a beautiful view with drapes and a colorful accent wall for a dramatic effect. It will not only enhance the view, it will give the room a greater feeling of serenity and comfort.3. Remember to choose a neutral color that will flow through the house for rooms that connect other rooms (such as hallways and transition areas). Be sure to consider floor and ceiling colors when choosing warm or cool tones.4. Use warm flesh tones, tan, gold and chocolate colors in bedrooms and bathrooms for a nurturing, peaceful ambiance.5. Avoid bright yellow in paint choices. Studies show that bright yellow increases feelings of irritation and aggression.6. Choose neutral colors for large pieces of furniture and then choose rugs and artwork with colors you like to help with paint selection and accessory choices. Carry swatches with you to make sure you get the colors right!7. Bring as much natural light as possible into a room. Mirrors can help reflect light into dark spaces. Always opt for full-spectrum lighting to bring out the true colors in a room. Use dimmer switches to change the mood.8. Remember that lighter colors make a room feel bigger and darker colors make it feel smaller. You can use a lighter shade of the wall colors for ceiling colors instead of white.9. Kitchens feel best in warm tones and earth tones. Red stimulates the appetite and blue diminishes it. If you want people to hang out in the kitchen and love what they are eating, avoid too much blue in the kitchen and dining areas. There are countless resources on-line and an abundance of books on choosing color. Remember that the only correct answer to the question regarding "What color should I add to my home for good feng shui" is always be the same; "No matter what anyone says, always decorate with colors that you love."Look at the colors you choose to wear and check out your closet for inspiration. You may also have a favorite painting or rug with colors that can be used to accent walls in your home. Use the rug or the painting as a template and work your color scheme around it and you will end up with a room that feels as good as it looks!

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house from a Feng Shui perspective as it is where food, the body's fuel is prepared. With importance comes responsibility however and so great care should be taken to ensure that energy is allowed to flow around the kitchen in a natural, balanced and positive way.A lot of advice is published on the web around where your kitchen should be situated, how a kitchen should be decorated, where your oven should be positioned, the direction your workshops should face and so on. A lot of the advice given warns of dire consequences and problems you may experience in your life if you do not adhere to good kitchen placement. The problem with a lot of the advice given is that it assumes that you are either building a house and can therefore choose where your kitchen is to be located or have an enormous kitchen and a large budget to totally redesign it. It is true that the kitchen can be one of the most problematic areas of the house but like everything in Feng Shui any problems can be very simply overcome without having to resort to a sledgehammer or a bank loan. The main reason that the kitchen can be problematic is because it can encourage a destructive flow of energy. The focal point of the kitchen is the oven which represents fire. However the majority of the other large items in the kitchen are all water based. Think about the average kitchen. Normally it will contain a fridge, freezer, washing machine, sink and dishwasher. The fire energy from the oven can be overcome with water energy if steps are not taken to provide the oven with some much needed support, leading to jerky and destructive energy in the kitchen and possible fractious relationships between the occupants of the home.Fortunately there are a number of ways in which to provide support to the oven to promote a positive flow of chi. Some of these support tools may already be in place without you having to do anything at all. If your oven is on a south facing wall then it will automatically be strengthened by it's placement in the fire area of the room. In the same way strength will be gained if the kitchen is in the south east or south areas of the home. If your oven or kitchen is not in one of these directions then you can use colour to provide support. Green is an excellent colour for a kitchen as green represents wood which supports fire whilst taking it's own energy from water. To introduce green to your kitchen you do not necessarily have to paint the walls. Introducing some green kitchen items like utensil jars, biscuit barrels and cups, plates and bowls can work just as well. Red can also work well in a kitchen but should be used sparingly as you do not want to overdo the fire element. In our own kitchen which faces south I have a large red and green fruit bowl displayed in one corner to help strengthen the fire element. One of the most important problems that needs to be overcome relating to the oven is if it is directly next to water, for example if the oven and sink are next to each other. If this is the case you will need to bring in some sort of barrier between them. This can be done by placing crystals in a bowl between oven and the sink. Excellent crystals to use are crystals which represent the element wood or fire like Carnelian and Citrine which can be placed in a small decorative wooden bowl or box. If there is really no room between the oven and the sink, fridge or dishwasher then you will need to place the crystals on top of the water based element, or in the case of the sink behind the sink.As the oven is seen as the heart of the kitchen it goes without saying that it should be kept clean and in good repair. Any faulty burners should be replaced immediately. If you keep your oven well maintained and clean and use it often and with love then the energy around your kitchen will be healthy even though some items may not be perfectly placed. By following these simple guidelines even the slightest enhancements can make a big difference to the fortunes of your home.If you have found this article useful, please check out my other Feng Shui articles on EzineArticles. It's so funny. You'd think after doing this work for twenty years my answer to that question would be an unequivocal, "Yes! Of course it works!" But once in a while the Universe gives me a lesson to remind me first-hand that when feng shui is applied to a space correctly, it does indeed free up the energy that brings positive changes into our lives. Yes indeed, even the "Feng Shui Lady" needs a lesson from time to time. Here are two stories I'm going to tell on myself and my own personal experiences with feng shui in my own home.A while back I got a bouncing, barking, baby puppy. He was so cute and at the same time so much work. Just like any baby, my puppy went through a chewing stage. Anything he could sink his little chompers into was fair game for a chew toy. Because of his prolific chewing activities, I decided that the electrical cords in one particular area of my home posed a potential deadly threat to my ever-curious puppy. To protect him I put a metal "puppy gate" around the area where the majority of the cords were. When I did that I didn't stop to think about what "feng shui area" this part of the house was. I just plopped the puppy gate down and forgot about it.A couple of months passed. My time had been consumed with taking care of my very active puppy and putting the final touches on my book before it went to press. During this time I noticed that my income started declining. Yes I know all about the current state of the economy, but this was different. This was an unusual dip in finances that was starting to move past a "dip" and was becoming more of a canyon. I started getting worried. Then I thought, "If I were my client, what would I tell myself?" The answer was, "Look at the southeast (wealth) sector and see if anything is going on there that shouldn't be." My wealth sector happens to fall in the exact location where I had placed the puppy gate a couple of months ago (around the same time my finances became stressed.) You see, growing wood (i.e. a healthy plant) is the needed element for the southeast meridian. In the Chinese 5 Element Cycle, Metal (the puppy gate) energetically destroys the needed element (wood). When I realized that I had placed the metal gate in the area where metal was the worst element, I removed it immediately (luckily the puppy was past his chewing stage by then). Sure enough, within a week finances began to improve and in a couple of weeks were back to where they were before the " Puppy Gate Incident".The next story I'm going to tell on myself is similar to the one I just mentioned, only this time it has to do with the north (career) sector. My career sector (the north meridian) falls exactly in my guest bathroom, which is fine, because water is the main element for career energy. In feng shui, when we add water to an area we need to make sure the water is circulating. This is why a table top fountain is so ideal in the north. That said, for almost ten years my live-in boyfriend used that bathroom as "his" bathroom. The daily use of that bathroom kept the water circulating and there was no need for a fountain. During that time my career had really taken off. I had more appointments than I could book, starred in a television series, and had risen to the top of my field. Then three years ago we came to the decision to go our separate ways. He moved out and the guest bathroom went back to being a guest bathroom and was only used very occasionally. Truth be told, during that time my career had begun to stall. Big contracts were fewer and farther between, class sizes got smaller and the frequency of my appointments went from sometimes up to three in a day to sometimes three in a week. I blamed it on the economy and kept plugging away, "hoping" it would get better. Finally (I'm a bit slow on the uptake sometimes), like the incident with the puppy gate, I decided to look at my home the way I would with a client. Was there anything amiss in my career area that I had overlooked or unthinkingly changed? Then it dawned on me. My career started slowing down shortly after my boyfriend moved out. The guest bathroom went from being used every day to being used maybe once a week. As a result, the water in that area became stagnant instead of circulating. A lightbulb went on in my head. (DUH!) I needed to put a fountain in that bathroom as soon as possible. Guess what? Within two weeks after I put the fountain in that bathroom, my career went into the stratosphere! Suddenly my appointment book was full, big contracts were once again flowing in, and I was back to where I was three years before. If only this had dawned on me sooner!I know what you're thinking...the "Feng Shui Lady" should have known this all along, but the truth of the matter is that we all get used to the way our houses are. We place something (or remove something) without thinking of its impact on the overall energy of the feng shui our home. I also think there is a deeper meaning here. In order for me to be able to help my clients, I MUST know that what I do has truth and validity. My experiences in my own life and in my own home are true testimonies to the power of feng shui!To keep your home on its feng shui toes, be sure to pick up a copy of my book, "Feng Shui that Makes Sense, Easy Ways to Create a Space that FEELS as Good as it Looks". Feng Shui share a mutual concept with home staging, which is to bring harmony and balance into a space; usually both include de-clutter, creating traffic flow, bringing in natural light and ensuring there is enough lighting etc. But there are many more secrets most people don't know about Feng Shui. Let's take a look at six Feng Shui tips most stagers don't know but should.1. Color:in Feng Shui, color plays an important role. Some colors create bad Feng Shui bringing bad energy, some bring peace and good luck. For example, dark blue, purple, dark green, red, mustard yellow are all considered bad color that reduces the energy in the home; pink is a really bad color that brings more trouble to the family. On the other side, off-white series brings peace, good luck, positive energy to the family and house, light green, light orange, and natural wood does the same. The ceiling should always be in lighter color than the floor, to reflect the "light sky and heavy earth" in the nature.2. T-joint location: T-joint location refers to the house located at the joint point of a T shaped street. This house location is considered the worst for many reasons, such as: safety because the house is facing the coming street, a drunk driver could hit the house, higher chances for the residents to get hit when leave the house...all in all, the bad energy which can easily go through the house. This type of house location is extremely difficult to sell in certain community. A way to fight back the bad energy and reduce the bad luck is: install a large stone in the front yard, or tree, facing the street, or hand a eight-edged Bagua mirror in front of the house and facing the street.3. Important room corners:The two corners facing the entrance of each room usually are the financial spots. Don't put any electric appliances at these spots, which will disturb the good energy, instead, greenery, and decorative pieces will bring good financial luck, like selling the house faster.4. Where is the entrance door facing? It is a bad luck if the main entrance door faces the inside staircase directly, or the dining room, or the backyard door. This type of structure will find the residents working very hard and struggling to make ends meet. An easy way to create some positive energy and add appeal is to add a large green tree or plant between the entrance and the staircase, or add a screen between the entrance and the dining room, or the backyard door to encourage chi to stay longer.5. Location of bed: bed should not be located under the beam, the bedroom entrance should not face a mirror, the bed should not face a mirror. Best advice for a bedroom is not to have mirror at all.6. Art works and Decor: Do not use landscape art in bedroom. In living room, landscape art is proper, but if the art has water in the art should run toward the inside of the house, not to the entrance door, the boat in the art should facing the house, not the door. The greenery in the house should not have any withered leaf... These all help to bring in positive energy to the house, which can help to sell it faster and bring the seller good luck.By Zoe Zhao CSP

Feng Shui is a very popular method now used for arranging and decorating the home. The idea is to place all elements of your living space in a way that creates and encourages positive energy. There are five elements of Feng Shui: water, wood, metal, earth, and fire.Water can be a sign of wealth, professional opportunity, and prosperity in some instances, but can signal loss of money and poor health when running down a drain or toilet. Indoor water features such as fountains and waterfalls are positive energy, which will indicate wealth and prosperity. In addition to the individual element of water, it's important to include water around wood elements, as water is necessary for wood to grow in nature. Fountains and waterfalls are popular Feng Shui products and come in many different styles, sizes, and materials. The fountains can be inside or outside and include wall fountains, cascading waterfalls, freestanding fountains, tabletop fountains, or anything else your imagination can conjure.Placement of Indoor Water Features for the Best Energy Map BenefitsFeng Shui depends a lot on the placement of features in the room. Certain elements and items should be placed in certain parts of the room for positive energy. Indoor water features should generally be placed in the east, southeast, or north portions of a room. The interplay between the elements is important as well. A Feng Shui energy map is your best guide. Giving your design and decoration choice its optimum energy attraction.Feng Shui experts say you should not include water in the south area, which is where fire should be and water and fire conflict. You should also avoid placing water in the bedroom; regardless of what Feng Shui area of your house it is located, because it brings worry into the bedroom. Most other areas of your home are safe for indoor water features, especially those listed above. In addition, you can add Feng Shui crystals and stones to some fountains strengthening the positive energy created from the water source. No matter where you place your water, water features with running water produce negative ions, which help to clean the air in the home, creating more positive energy. So, if you begin decorating to achieve Chi in your home from Feng Shui placement, be sure to include the indoor water features that are best incorporated into your existing style and decorations. There are options to satisfy most any style.

According to an ancient Chinese philosophy, there is a need to balance natural and structural energy that courses around the environment. Palpable manifestations of this energy can be a well-meaning and prosperous lifestyle. This energy (called "chi" in Chinese language) is organized into five elements. These are: metal, fire, wood, water, and earth. These forms of energy are constantly streaming around positive and negative wavelengths. Moreover, it is claimed that this universal life energy can be balanced by positioning the objects in their proper places. By doing so, it is said to improve the general well-being of people and their present relationships as well as achieving prosperity in their economic status. The balancing of the energy around us is an application of Feng Shui decorating. It originated from Chinese culture, but Feng Shui is already a worldwide trend. Literally, Feng Shui means "wind and water," and is a popular practice of application to create a balanced environment in a specific area. The application is used in decorating a home, office, or any similar establishment wherein an amalgamation of ancient Chinese mathematics, interior design, architecture, and simple rules of good housekeeping is utilized as the formula. There are various Feng Shui products that anybody can use to incorporate into their space. Various elements, such as lighting, mirrors, placement of furniture, and landscaping are some of the decorating techniques used to optimize human potential. One belief of Feng Shui is that sharp corners and angles should be avoided, as these are considered destructive elements and can hinder the energy levels from flowing through and instead redirect harmful ones. Evergreen is also believed to be a good luck symbol, so a simple bamboo plant is used in Feng Shui decorations. If the process of decoration has been properly applied, starting with accurate placement of objects to appropriately administer various procedures, success will manifest at once. When the clutter and untidiness are gone, constriction and inertia in the corresponding aspects of life will also leave the place. This is explained through the principles of the Yin and Yang theory. Apparently, as the insinuation of belief made by Feng Shui, the result will have a profound impact on balance and harmony in the environment.

The majority of people don't realize that their surroundings play a major part in their financial success. The work and home environments are full of energy and the southeast area is associated with wealth. In order for one to enhance and take advantage of the energies available for wealth, they need to understand what they need to do to bring financial feng shui in those areas. The first step is always determining just where the southeast section is located at. This is not the southeast direction from where you walk in the door, but the actual direction of southeast that needs to be established. Once that is done, taking a look at that area of the home or workplace is needed to see just what condition it is in. People who experience money problems or who are not happy with their finances usually find that their wealth areas are in poor shape or have been ignored.Clutter is the main cause of blocking and trapping energy and that clutter needs to be cleaned up. It is necessary to get rid of anything and everything that is not needed in the area or that is in the way. Closets and rooms that fall in the wealth area need to be included in that cleansing, even if they don't seem to have anything to do with money. Because those sections are in the wealth area they can block or help flow the energy, depending on the condition they are in.Getting rid of all the clutter in the home can actually help once the wealth section is cleansed. Clutter just makes things look and feel very disorganized and this can increase stress levels quickly, especially when looking for something in all that mess. Cleaning all the areas around the wealth area can help to release energy and allow energy to flow freely around the home. After the clutter is gone and things start to look better it is time to add some elements to attract money energy. Healthy, lush green plants are a good start as they are a favorite in attracting wealth, especially when placed in a southeast corner. It is important to take good care of any plant in the area also, taking care of the plant so that it is vibrant and healthy adds to the prosperous energy in your life.Metal is also associated with both protection and wealth, and should be incorporated into the decor in some way. This includes all types of metal: gold, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and silver just to name a few. When using metal you need to be careful to avoid sharp edges. Sharp corners in a room need to be avoided and you need metal with nice rounded edges. This isn't as hard as it sounds, you can use things such as a metal vase with flowers, a bronze sculpture or silver picture frames with rounded corners.Colors are also important. According to Feng Shui, red, blue, and purple are associated with enhancing wealth. The reds and purples bring a supporting energy in all your career efforts, which are generally directly related to your finances and wealth. The blues are connected to the water element and that is a symbol of abundance, and everyone wants abundance with wealth. Green and brown are also used, the represents the energy of health, vitality, and growth, which are also expressions of abundance and a feng shui cure for wealth and prosperity.Financial feng shui decorating in a home and workplace is popular and believed to increase wealth and prosperity. As these are only a few sample things to do, aquariums, crystals, and symbols such as the Moon Frog can also be incorporated in the decor. When decorating using symbols and energy attractors, always make sure to use pieces you like so you feel positive in the room also.

Every residential and commercial building is affected by energy whether you can see it or not. Each year, millions of people buy, read, or come across books on how to go about setting up the arrangement of items, furniture and special features in the living space. 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit, in Chinese, it is called the Yin Metal Rabbit, or 'xin mao'. Before we begin evaluating the Feng Shui cosmic energy for the year, we must understand that Feng Shui affects our mood, psychology, luck and many other factors in life. By going with the flow of our own cosmic system, and aligning the energy around us, we can live a much more harmonious and auspicious life. The old saying goes "One Destiny, Two Luck, Three Feng Shui". Feng Shui has a definite bearing on our lives whether we choose to believe in it or not. Obviously education and the things we choose to do also affect our luck. If you are in a good cycle, with Feng Shui, you can enhance the good luck, on the other hand, if you are in a bad cycle, Feng Shui can help you reduce the negative impacts of bad luck. The following is a summary of what everyone can do with limited knowledge of Feng Shui. Please note that if you are uncertain about the Feng Shui configurations of your house, hire a professional to evaluate your house. Aside from annual Feng Shui energy, you may need to take into consideration the use of other traditional Chinese methods such as Flying Stars, Eight Mansions and so forth. The annual star also has an impact on the Flying Stars which is determined by the time factor. The use of trinkets, ornaments and statues may be considered. Although some may consider them superstition, certain animals such as the Dragon, Kirin, and Pi Yao Dogs, if placed properly, can have powerful defensive qualities. If you intend to make Feng Shui changes for 2011, be sure to do so after February 4th 2011.The Grand Duke of Jupiter (82.5º - 97.5º East)Every year, the Asians who are into Feng Shui are always concerned firstly about where the "Grand Duke" resides for the year. It is an area where there is energetic imbalance due to its interactions with the planet Jupiter and the cosmos. This is an area that should not be disturbed. For the Year of the Rabbit, the Grand Duke is located in the East, therefore, avoid renovations and major activities in this area of the house. The inauspicious 5 star also moved into this sector which makes the east sector an even more difficult area to deal with. Things to beware of and remedies in the East sector:• Avoid red and earth colors in this sector.
• Place six coins in a row or metal objects here.
• Brass, bronze, silver or gold dragon ornaments are also recommended.
• Pi Yao Dogs (preferably two) are of very popular ornaments used to appease the Grand Duke.
• If you have a different sector of entry into the house, try to use that instead of the east sector. If the east entrance is unavoidable, try not to bang or slam the door upon entry.
• Calabash or Wu Lu Gourd can also be used.Annual One White Star (Northeast)This year, the Romance Star flies to the Northeast sector. For those who are interested in enhancing their romance aspect of your lives, or increase the possibilities of meeting people, place metal and water objects in this area of your living space. The sound of metal such as a metal chiming clock or music box can do the trick. Water is also advised for this area. If you were to choose one or the other element, definitely go with metal since the Northeast area represents earth. With metal, you are providing a bridge between the earth and water energy of this area.Annual Two Black Star (South)The Two Black Star is often referred to as the sickness star. For 2011, this is not a good area at all as the sickness star is enhanced by the fire from the south. If the south area of your house is the bathroom, guestroom, laundry or storage room, then it is of less concern to you. In Flying Star Feng Shui, when the 2 and the 9 come together, there is a higher potential of misfortunes.Remedies:
• Place six metal coins in this area.
• Avoid major building work or renovations. If you need to do so, hire a professional to select a date for renovations.
• Brass ingot can be used to protect wealth.
• Metal Wu Lou Gourd (Calabash) is also recommended to reduce the effects of the sickness star.
• Avoid colors of red and the use of fire (eg. Candles and electronic equipment) in this sector.
• Some books that I have come across in Hong Kong recommended placing wood in this sector to fight the earth energy. Personally, I'd rather reduce the bad energy before fighting it.Annual Three Jade Star (North)This star is not as bad as the Two Black Star nor the Grand Duke yet you have to be aware of arguments and disputes in this area of the house or business unit. The remedy for this area is simple. Since the Three Jade Star possesses wood energy, utilize red colors and fire-related objects to reduce the strength of the wood. Avoid using water features in this sector for the year unless and Feng Shui consultant has diagnosed this area properly utilizing Flying Stars. Do not hang wind chimes or place metallic instruments in this area.Annual Four Green Star (Southwest)This is often referred to as the academic or scholar star. It governs not only academic and artistic talents, but also other parts such as career, travel, wisdom, education and interpersonal relations. Unfortunately, this star flies into the Southwest sector which possesses earth energy, as a result, the academic star is weaker for this year due to its conflict with the earth energy. In order to raise the energy of the academic star, you will need to place four bamboo sticks in a water vase. Do not place plants with earth in this area as you can end up creating conflict in this sector for those who are studying. Avoid placing metal objects as it will weaken the academic star. Having a wooden bookshelf or pagoda in this area is also auspicious.Annual Five Yellow Star (East)As mentioned earlier about the Grand Duke, this sector is not suitable for major activities. It is not all doom and gloom when we deal with Feng Shui. The key is identifying the bad sectors and finding the proper remedies. Many traditional Chinese cures involve the use of salt water or six Chinese coins in this area. Those methods may work but it is more important to avoid disturbing this sector. Utilize more metal in this area. Please refer to the above description on the Grand Duke for remedies in this area.Annual Six White Star (Southeast)The Six White Star is a good star for those who want to enhance their career luck. This is also considered to be a military star which is favourable for those who are politicians or officers. Since the Six White Star possesses metal energy while the Southeast possesses wood, we would require a bridge in order to enhance the metal. To do this, place both fire and earth related items together. Logically, you would have the wood feeding the fire, and the fire strengthening the earth, then the earth can strengthen the metal. You can also place a real quartz crystal or crystal spheres in this area to activate the energy of the White Star.Annual Seven Robbery Star (Center)This year, the 'Broken Soldier' star is imprisoned in the center palace. This star represents robbery, deception, theft, gossips and back stabbing. This star must be taken care of or there may be possibilities of loss of wealth and break-ins. Do NOT use red colors in the center of your house and try to avoid candles and electronic equipment here. Metal chimes and metallic instruments must also be avoided here. The best remedy for this sector is to place water here. If you intend to use water features in this sector, ensure that the water flows slowly. Water that is crashing or vibrant in this area would accidentally activate the robbery star. If in doubt, you can always upgrade your security and alarm system.Annual Eight White Star (Northwest)Out of all the stars, the eight star is the most auspicious since it is governing the flying star for this period until 2023. The auspicious earth energy of the eight star resides in a metal area where its fortunes are reduced for 2011. For those who like to place crystals at home, this is the area where it should belong in for this year. The best quality of handpicked quartz crystals is recommended and they have to be place properly and visible in the northwest for 2011. Wealth and fame will also be found in this area of the world and I will cover this next month in my annual predictions for 2011. If your bedroom is located in the northwest, you can also consider placing an amethyst crystal here to strengthen the Eight White Star. The northwest should also be free of clutter. Many Chinese tend to place 8 white pebbles aligned in a shape of a cross like the image shown in the stars chart. The white pebbles can also strengthen and solidify the earth energy in this sector.Annual Nine Purple Star (West) This is supposed to be a very auspicious star since it is considered a 'future' wealth star with an auspicious influence in this current period. For 2011, the Nine Purple Star, representative of fire energy is in conflict with the metal energy of the west. To make matters worse, the Annual Three Killings reside in this sector. Do not place metal objects in this area as you may end up disturbing the negative energy of the Three Killings. It is best to hold back renovations or major activities in this area of the house for 2011. Remedies for this area would include water and wood objects. Green plants or fresh flowers grown in water would be your best solution. Feng shui decorating guidelines enable us to make a place in harmony with the people living or occupying that space. Decorating may not mean making an area look prettier and nicer. More often, we would find ourselves doing things we might never have thought of doing while decorating. This kind of decorating means that you make an environment that is conducive for energies to support a specific activity or activities intended for your home. Make sure that before doing any decorating, you have made your place clutter-free. Do ensure that good quality air and light are present in your home. When ready, keep these tips in mind for decorating.
Define your Bagua. Bagua means the energy source of your place. Not unlike a house's blueprint, the bagua shows you the best colors to use in certain rooms of the house, how to arrange and position furniture in specific areas, etc. The bagua serves as an energy map so that you would know the specific key areas that need work. The bagua will also give you pointers on how to position funiture and other items.
Find out the best colors for your home. Each color is an expression of one of the five elements in feng shui. A color guide would help in discovering the appropriate colors that suit your needs and enhance harmony in your home. Colors can be added through through the use of various décor items, wallpaper, pictures or paintings. Colors have a huge impact on your everyday activities. They are nourishing and uplifting. As you absorb more colors throughout your day, the better you will feel.
The third step is to define the right products your home would need. Before buying items, keep it mind that products that do not appeal to you aesthetically will not help. Make a list of what you need and start looking for them according to your tastes. Items would include fountains as a money cure, Buddha images for personal and spiritual growth, and lucky bamboos as a health cure. Know which ones you need from there, you can start applying feng shui decorating guidelines to your homes.
Learn how to position items. Your décor items can serve as powerful feng shui cures. These cures can help in attracting the best energy when placed right. Make sure that the cures you have on hand are placed in the area with the matching energy to the feng shui elements according to the feng shui energy map of the Bagua.
Organizing furniture, items and décor in your home by using feng shui decorating guidelines would be a good idea in order to gain all the positive energy you need for a harmonious life. These guidelines have been used for centuries and it has improved the lifestyle of many others who have chosen this path.

Practicing feng shui when it comes to decorating a room has become a popular way to style a room. Feng shui is all about utilizing the space in your home effectively to maintain good chi (energy). There are certain things that a homeowner must or must not do when it comes to decorating and having the right feng shui in the room. Here are some interior decorating tips if you want your home to maintain its chi.Include Color in the RoomIn feng shui decorating, there are certain colors that you should use if you want to promote good energy in the room. All of the colors stand for different things, such as the color red stands for good luck, which is why most people will include red in their decorating.Decorate with green if you want a fresh and peaceful look. Use yellow as another good luck color. None of the colors that are used in decorating should be unappealing or distracting to the home owner. If should have nothing but a comfortable feeling to it.Keep the Room SimpleFeng shui decorating does not involve overly crowded spaces full of stuff. Instead the room should be kept fairly simple with the basic furniture and few accessories. The room should not be cramped as that will only offer negative energy from the room.Start out with the basics like a piece of furniture and maybe another added piece to begin with. Then add a few items as needed, making sure to not go overboard on the accessories or décor items.Use Natural MaterialsWhenever possible use natural materials for the room. Natural materials like bamboo, hemp, and organic fabrics help to keep the negative chi away that can be found with artificial products. If you want to practice feng shui, a great way would be to have a bamboo wood floor or have an organic cotton slipcover over your couch.Decorate with PlantsIf you want your room to have good chi, then you definitely want to decorate with plants. The fact that plants are a living object that helps the environment makes it a wonderful addition to any feng shui room. Use all types of different plants in your home to achieve a unique look in each room. In one room you may have a small potted plant, while in the other you may have a large standing tree in corner of the room. Both of these plants make a great addition to a room.Decorate and Design According the BaguaA bagua is an energy map for a room. If you are really serious about feng shui decorating, then you need to follow the bagua specifically according to the shape and size of the room.A long dining room is not going to have the same energy map as a small kitchen. Use the bagua to determine the life areas so that you can start decorating the different rooms according to the decorating practices.Feng shui decorating is becoming more and more popular and has since become known more as a decorating style rather than a philosophy. Embrace the feng shui life and read up more about it if you want to get some positive chi in your home.

The Feng shui decorating style of design has become increasingly popular and somewhat trendy in the past decade, with millions of Americans embracing its less-is-more, our-energy-is-our-soul-is-our-mind-is-our-mood-is-our-life philosophy. While that is a simplified definition, at the heart of Feng shui decorating is simplicity and a conscious attempt to embrace the subconscious in a space.Pronounced "fung shway," (literally means "wind, water") it is the Chinese practice of positioning objects, especially graves, buildings, and furniture, based on a belief in patterns of yin and yang and the flow of chi that have positive and negative effects. It is an ancient rule in Chinese philosophy that spatial arrangement and orientation in relation to patterns of yin and yang and the flow of energy is crucial to mental, physical and spiritual health and well-being. The favorable or unfavorable effects are taken into consideration in designing and sitting furniture and rooms in a home. The practice has been embraced by countless designers in the States. A lot of this is driven by a new-found American appreciation for oriental art, food, and decoration.Simplify! Simplify! Simplify! While harnessing your chi and getting in touch with the yin to your yang is not simply a matter of painting a room red, there are some basic tenants of feng shui decorating that, when applied, have made millions happier, and, they would argue, healthier.*Clear the clutter. Get rid of everything that is useless, evokes negative feelings or responses, or serves no purpose. The goal here is, as Thoreau said, Simplify! Simplify! Simplify!*Pay attention to the energy in your room. No, this does not mean stare at the light or put a fork in a socket, this means be cognizant of the feelings evoked by items, different areas in the room, different furniture positions, and different lighting. Having positive energy flow is crucial. If something is having a positive or soothing effect in a certain place, leave it.*Clean the room from top to bottom. And that means everything; walls, windows, doors, closets, baseboards, heating elements, fixtures-everything.*In the bedroom, where feng sui is most commonly applied, bed placement is very important. Make sure your bed is placed to provide greatest visibility to your doorway and also provide a feeling of protection and safety. If this is not possible, a mirror on the wall opposite the bed can reflect the negative energy. Your bedroom is your haven, a place of safety and serenity.*Sleeping areas should not be too dark. Reds, light greens and blues and yellows are positive colors that have beneficial effects on the mind and spirit.*Avoid overusing whites, which, according to feng shui, deliver "cold energy." If white is unavoidable, flowers, plants and splashes of well-placed color can counteract. While feng shui decorating is most commonly applied in the home, many have embraced it in the workplace and are using the same principles to guide the layout of their desks and offices. When applied, feng shui decorating in the workplace encourages productivity, better work, and, ultimately, financial and professional success.
